DC2N3: a recurring question

People are asking me about the DC2N3 playback feature. Let me repeat this again: the code is written and tested. The hardware design is behind for two simple reasons:

  • I can’t fit the tape port connector in any reasonable way on the current assembly without producing usage issues like blocking other ports on the C64 (including the serial port);
  • I haven’t got enough tape port connectors to cover the needs.

I am going to look at both points soon but for the time being the DC2N3 prototypes are for dumping only, i.e. for preservation purposes, which is the whole point the DC2N project was started. However, the current hardware does have expansion pads where a C2N cable+connector could be soldered. I might look into that in future, giving people guidance on how to do that, but not just yet.
